In the May 2009 issue of Knoxville Magazine, Janet Testerman did a destination article highlighting the best Charleston has to offer, and she had great things to say about Slightly North of Broad:
“Restaurants
Slightly North of Broad (S.N.O.B.): Voted Charleston’s best restaurant in 2006 for quintessential Charleston lowcountry cuisine from an open kitchen. Request Shane Diviney as your server. 192 E. Bay St…”

Last Friday Patrick Emerson hosted another of his monthly wine classes in our Charleston Cooks! kitchen. The class was sold out and everyone there seemed to enjoy themselves. The class tasted nine wines overall.
High Cotton Charleston will be extending their hours to better serve patrons of the 2009 Spoleto festival. Because no one wants to sit through a performance on an empty stomach, we will begin seating guests at 5:00pm. And if you have a post-Spoleto craving, we’ll be serving our bar food menu one hour past our regular closing time.

Gourmet magazine featured Slightly North of Broad’s Maverick Grits in their May 2009 issue.
An excerpt:
“…It’s not just shrimp and grits, though there are very good shrimp and grits to be had. Particularly at Slightly North of Broad (better known as S.N.O.B.), where the pioneering Frank Lee—that’s him in the open kitchen wearing a baseball cap with red chiles on it—tosses in big pieces of sausage for a hearty version that pleases the busy lunch crowd of bankers, lawyers, and politicians. (A longtime New Yorker who has started spending half her time in town calls S.N.O.B. “the ‘21’ Club of Charleston.”)…”

“Captain” Herb Emory will be broadcasting his popular NASCAR radio show from the porch of High Hammock this saturday.
Emory races onto the airwaves every Saturday from 2-4pm on WSBRadio out of Atlanta. This week, he asked to take his show on the road to High Hammock. Emory’s insight into the NASCAR world, having reports from fellow Atlantean Bill Elliot has made his show the premier NASCAR talk radio show in the Atlanta area.
We are thrilled to be hosting him and his team.
If you in the Atlanta area, then you’re probably already familiar with “Captain” Herb and WSBRadio. However, if you’re outside of the Atlanta area, and aren’t able to come to Pawleys Island, you can listen to the show live online at WSBRadio.com.

Thank you Greenville for two great years!
Each year, we welcome guest chefs into our kitchens as part of the Dine Around celebration. This year we welcomed Chefs Jefferey Buben and RJ Cooper of the popular Vidalia and Bistro Bis restaurants in Washington, D.C. to Slightly North of Broad; and we also welcomed Chef Hugh Acheson from 5&10 Restaurant in Atlanta, Ga. to High Cotton.
The Dine Arounds are special events for us at Maverick. We welcome in friends and colleagues to cook, eat, relax, share stories and just enjoy the art of cooking. We’d like to thank everyone who not only showed up to dine, but our guests as well for being absolutely amazing.
We’d also like to thanks our sponsors: Pure Insurance Company, Sysco, Jorge Ordonez Winery & Row 11 Winery for their support to make this event happen.
