Jill Maynard
Director of Employee Development
After a career spent managing restaurants including 12 years at Maverick Southern Kitchens, Jill stepped into a new position in May 2009. As the Director of Employee Development, Jill’s mission is to give each member of the Maverick Southern Kitchens team the best tools and support to grow their career, not only within the company, but in the hospitality industry.
No small task in an organization covering three metropolitan areas across South Carolina and whose reputation for restaurant leadership and brand innovation has achieved national recognition.
As Director of Professional Development, Jill leads the company’s efforts in three key areas: the continuous development and improvement of training materials, practices, and ongoing employee education; the identification, recruitment, and hiring of new employees; and the administration of information and systems for human resource management.
Previously, Jill was the general manager for High Cotton, Maverick Bar & Grill, with two locations – in downtown Charleston, SC and downtown Greenville, SC. She assisted in the opening of the original High Cotton in Charleston in November 1999, and managed it for nine years. Under Jill’s leadership, High Cotton became one of the city’s most recognized restaurants, earning attention and acclaim of both national and local media, as well as dining guests. In readers’ polls for two Charleston publications (The Post and Courier; Charleston City Paper), High Cotton has earned the Best Sunday Brunch recognition for several years including 2009, and is noted as one of Charleston’s Best Steak restaurants in the 2009 Restaurant Guide of The Post and Courier. She accepted the role of general manager for the Greenville location in early 2008.
Jill came to Charleston from Chicago, by way of Atlanta and Colorado where she worked with several nationally recognized restaurants and resorts including the acclaimed Bacchanalia restaurant in Atlanta. Her love of the water pulls her to the beautiful beaches and rivers of the Lowcountry, which she enjoys with friends and family as often as possible.
Jill’s style of out-of-the-cubicle thinking and savvy decision-making skills are just two characteristics of her dynamic leadership abilities. Add to this her demonstrated dedication to training and to our Maverick principles of hospitality, and it is easy to see the selection of Jill for the important role at Maverick Southern Kitchens. While her desk is now located at the corporate office, her focus will always be in a restaurant.
