President and Owner

Richard D. Elliott is president and owner of Maverick Southern Kitchens, a hospitality company that develops and operates restaurants and other properties in the Charleston, South Carolina area. Properties include the restaurants of Slightly North of Broad; High Cotton, A Maverick Bar & Grill; and Old Village Post House, A Maverick Inn and Restaurant. MSK also owns and operates Charleston Cooks! A Maverick Kitchen Store. The company also provides consulting services to the hospitality industry.

Mr. Elliott has extensive legal, business and journalism experience. Prior to becoming involved in business and entrepreneurial activities, Mr. Elliott was a trial lawyer in Atlanta, Georgia for twelve years.

From 1983 to 1984 Elliott was the Associate General Counsel for Burlington Industries, Inc. in Greensboro, North Carolina. From 1985 to 1989 he was responsible for the general management of Lees Commercial Carpet Company, a division of Burlington.

In addition to his current work with the hospitality industry, Mr. Elliott is extensively involved with the Charleston community. He was the 2001-2002 President of the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce, where he has served as an officer and board member for over a decade. He serves on the board of directors for the Cardiovascular Institute of MUSC, the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, and the Health Sciences Foundation of the Medical University of South Carolina. Mr. Elliott also serves on the Charleston Regional Development Alliance Board of Directors and Executive Committee. He is actively involved in the continued development and revitalization of the Charleston peninsula and downtown neighborhoods, as well as the economic development of the region.

In 1992 Elliott was awarded the Business and the Arts award for South Carolina by the Joint Legislative Council on Cultural Affairs. In 1993 he was awarded the National Business in the Arts Award, presented by the Business Committee for the Arts and Forbes Magazine.

A native of Charleston, South Carolina, Mr. Elliott is a 1967 graduate in Journalism from the University of South Carolina, and a 1972 graduate of the University Of Michigan School Of Law.
